In dwelling, live close to the ground

Sometimes, I need to recenter and reground myself.  I need to refocus on what really matters. Doing this helps me to handle the not-so-pleasantries that come up and throw me off balance.  One of the ways I keep myself in check is by reading an incredibly poetic, yet simple Tao Te Ching quote:

In dwelling, live close to the ground.

In thinking, keep to the simple.

In conflict, be fair and generous.

In governing, don’t try to control.

In work, do what you enjoy.

In family life, be completely present.

My favorite part? In dwelling, live close to the ground. To me, this means a lot of things:

  • When wrong, admit it fully

  • Be closely in tune with the earth and nature - show respect

  • Keep my feet and thoughts firmly planted on the ground

  • I’m no better nor any worse than anyone else - we are equal

  • Take a walk in others’ shoes before settling on a snap judgment

I am by no means perfect, but this makes me want to do better next time.  That’s all I could ever ask of me.

I’m feeling more grounded already!

Happy evening, all.
